Common Scalp Conditions

Our scalp is an important part of our skin that is often overlooked. There are many different scalp conditions that can result in hair loss, thinning hair, and bald spots. The conditions we will discuss today are Dandruff, Seborrheic Dermatitis, Folliculitis and Psoriasis. We see these as common scalp conditions that can be treated or maintained.

Dandruff

Probably the most common scalp condition produces white flakes on your scalp that can be quite frustrating. Dandruff is a buildup of shedding dead skin. We still don’t know exactly what causes dandruff, but it is suspected to be some type of fungus on the skin. Dandruff is not contagious and is not dangerous, its just very annoying and somewhat embarrassing. You can treat dandruff by washing the scalp regularly with a cleansing Shampoo. Tea tree essential oil is also a good remedy for dandruff.

Seborrheic Dermatitis

Seborrheic dermatitis is a more aggressive form of dandruff. Redness of the scalp can be seen in more severe cases. This condition can migrate to the eyebrows and around the nose and ears causing redness and greasy crispy scales. Sunflower, coconut, and olive oils are a few natural oils that can treat seborrheic dermatitis. Our products are formulated with these ingredients to aid in maintaining treatment of this condition.

Folliculitis

When the hair follicle itself is infected or inflamed it is due to folliculitis. The sac that contains the root of the hair is affected with this condition. There are many ways to catch this type of condition. You can get it by shaving, waxing or even dunking your head in a hot tub. If you see small pus-filled pimples, you need to seek treatment from a medical professional or in mild cases it will go away on its own.

Psoriasis

This condition is often found on the scalp but can show up anywhere on the skin. This condition creates itchy, sore crusted scales on the skin. It is caused by a buildup of skin cells. Treatment for Psoriasis usually involves steroid creams or ointments. Some shampoos can be helpful as well. Shampoos with the following ingredients can be very helpful with psoriasis breakouts. Coconut oil has anti-inflammatory properties. This may help to ease any pain. Tea Tree oil has antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties. This helps ease inflammation caused by psoriasis.
